Sally A. Tottle MSTAT
Sally has many years of experience teaching the Alexander Technique to riders and others. Her book, BodySense, published in 1998 has been described as “a must in any horseman’s library” (Sally Swift, author of Centred Riding), and she has written articles for the equestrian press, including Horse & Rider, Countryside Magazine and Country Landowner.
Sally‟s work has also featured on television.
A keen rider from the age of seven, Sally has ridden with some of the top trainers in both combined training and dressage. She discovered the Alexander Technique after a serious back injury, which left her unable to ride. Her teacher, Irina Jackson introduced her to Daniel Pevsner, an Alexander Technique teacher, ex-pupil of the famed Spanish Riding School and FBHS. His teaching opened a new door for Sally and laid the foundations of the philosophy that underlies BodySense.
In 1988, she completed her 3-year training to become an Alexander Technique teacher, and has since studied a number of complimentary techniques, including Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), which she has integrated into her unique method of training.
Based in the attractive border country between England and Wales, Sally runs her BodySense courses for riders at a number of locations, as well as providing general instruction in the Alexander Technique.
“The standard of top level eventing is getting ever higher so we are always looking to improve our performance. In the dressage phase I've found that learning the Alexander Technique with Sally has taught me to make small, but vital alterations in my posture and balance, enabling more effective riding with less conscious effort.
The Alexander Technique has parallels with training horses so it is an ideal method for helping riders realise their potential and gain an extra edge.” Harry Meade, International Event Rider
“The Alexander Technique is one of the most valuable tools a rider can possess – and Sally Tottle‟s innovative teaching methods make it simple and fun to learn.”
Carl Hester, Olympic Dressage Rider
“Horse people have started to realise the enormous benefits the Alexander Technique can bring to their riding. In a simple, stress-free way, Sally helps riders to improve their posture and achieve a correct, classical position.”
Alison Bridge, Horse & Rider
