Courses and Instruction:
Increasingly, riders are beginning to realise that a heightened awareness of their own bodies has a dramatic effect on their horses. BodySense courses are designed to enhance performance by teaching students how to become aware of negative habit patterns which are hindering their ability to progress to their maximum potential. The horse naturally reflects changes in the rider’s balance and co-ordination, by changing his manner of movement too.
BodySense Courses 2011-2012:
Demo for Horse ........ at Stoneleigh - 12th & 13th November 2011.
At the Society of Alexander Teachers stand, Sally will give 15 minute taster courses for £10
BodySense courses are designed to help students to become aware of any negative habits they have of reacting and tightening, which interferes with the freedom of movement through the head, neck and back of both horse and rider.
Ideally, a student will have taken a course of Alexander Technique lessons before attending a BodySense course, as this will enable the body to find its natural poise and awareness, essential starting points for the serious rider.
BodySense courses for riders take place at a number of venues in Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, Somerset, Wiltshire and Northern Ireland. Courses can also be held by special arrangement at any suitable venue in the UK.
Schedules are being constantly updated, and new courses added, so please visit the web site to see what’s coming up, or email me with your contact details to be advised of forthcoming dates.
“In my horse riding, more centred and balanced – far less tension between me and the horse, especially in the arms, and greater subtlety in riding. Generally, I have a greater awareness of the way we hold and put physical tension into our bodies through mental stress and unconscious behaviour.”
Mandy Abbot, BodySense student
“In addition to a much more balanced seat and greater awareness of my body, I was really surprised at how I’ve learned to control my reactions when my horse spooks – this in turn has made her less spooky, and much improved my confidence!”
Carole Youngs, BodySense student
"Having had a course of lessons with Sally, I was amazed how it has helped my riding. I have an improved sense of feel and rapport with my horse. It has changed my understanding of "Contact" and has benefited me in numerous ways."
Sue Satchel, Event and dressage rider & breeder
"Alexander sessions have helped solve my hip problems so much so that I have cancelled my pending operation. Looking back it seems strange as two years ago I was unable to go for a walk without experiencing pain. Now I can walk as far as I like without giving it a thought. My riding has changed too." Vicky Cardell, BodySense student
"Whenever I rode I used to suffer pain in my hips, after one session with Sally the pain disappeared. It was incredible. Since then I have been learning to apply BodySense skills to my riding. I'm much more aware of the effect that my body has on my horse especially in sitting trot, half halt and shoulder in. My horse is appreciative of my new found awareness too!"
Susan Pritt, Equine Bowen Therapist Dressage competition rider
